For the first few years of Optimax, SEO was the core of everything we did. Our clients ranked well, organic traffic grew, and for a long time that was sufficient to move the needle for most businesses. Then 2024 changed the landscape in ways that were difficult to ignore.
Google’s rollout of AI Overviews fundamentally altered how search results are presented. For a growing number of queries, users now receive a generated summary at the top of the page, pulling from multiple sources and delivering an answer directly without requiring a click through to any individual website. At the same time, tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity began capturing a measurable share of the research and discovery behaviour that had previously belonged entirely to Google. Organic search rankings alone could no longer be relied upon as a primary growth channel.
We recognised this early and rebuilt our service offering around it. On the search side, we developed a GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) practice focused on structuring and positioning client content to appear within AI-generated results across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity. On the paid side, we expanded our Google Ads capability significantly, adding dedicated PPC specialists and tightening our approach to campaign structure, bidding strategy, and conversion tracking.
The result is an agency that covers the full picture of how customers find businesses online today. SEO remains part of what we do and always will be. It is simply no longer the only thing we do.
